Bridget Riley was an artist born in London in 1931. She is was one of the first to use the concept known as optical art {op art} in the mid 20th century. We will use pattern to create our own "op" art !
but to do op art, we have to understand what patterns are? Patterns are predictable. this means that when you look at something....you can guess what will come next...for example.....what would come to the right of the tall box marked "A" ..... out of sight?
I hope that you know that 2 more smaller B blocks would be found to the right of that 3rd tall dark gray A.
And then would come a 4th large gray A!
What would you find to the left of the tall gray A?
here are two examples of how patterns can be used to trick the eye
WE WILL CREATE OUR OWN OPTICAL ILLUSION. IT WILL LOOK LIKE THE ONE TO THE LEFT WHICH IS PARTIALLY COLORED IN.
THIS WAS DONE ON PURPOSE SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THE LINE WORK {A SERIES OF CURVED LINES THAT GO ...."IN AND OUT" AND GET SMALLER AS OUR EYE IS LED TO THE CENTER
