Artist M C escher is credited with coming up with this style of patterning that connects to math
IN THIS LESSON YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO MAKE BEAUTIFUL PATTERNS IN THE STYLE OF ARTIST M.C. ESCHER
this video will explain how you make a tessellation piece to tracer that you will need to work with. put your name on the tracer you make!!
per the video.......step one is to get a cardboard piece from me, which you will make a design on........example below
step 1 make a curvy line on one side.
cut out that curvy line and slide it across and tape it in place as you see here
Then, make another line on the top, cut it out and slide it across
step 2
now do the same thing for the top...make a curvy line. Cut out the line....slide it down and tape it in place
you now have your tracer.. It is that ea
take your tracer {I colored mine gray so you can see it} and just carefully trace the outline........fitting it the edges together like a jig saw puzzle
here are some student examples
here is an example of one that was not very creative, and does not follow the goal.........of what a tessellation is...... and endless pattern
let's practice! Step 1.....use your tessellation piece by tracing it over and over again on your practice sheet
step 2 use your imagination as the two students did above....coming up with different ideas or coloring differently to get ready for the final 12 x 12 sheet
step 3: that's is all there is to this..........now just figure out what design you like best from your practice sheet, and you will be ready to move on to the final
here is the rubric......all you need is 4 items in each "piece" repeating neatly to get your 2 points in the "creative" part {in the example above on the right....two eyes would count as 1 point. the "nose" under the eye, another point, etc.
