Simply put, positive space is best described as the areas in a work of art that are the subjects, or areas of interest. Negative space is area around the subjects, or areas of interest.
positive and negative don't always have to be in just black and white.
Positive and negative space can be thought of this way.....we start out with a sheet of paper. In this case, the reason we see 6 hearts is because our friends have cut their paper removing 6 shapes. Where we see empty space....is negative space
Yet the paper that was cut still exists. You see two of the hearts that were cut out to the left. We will use this idea to create some nice examples of positive & negative space!
