warm colors can be found to the left.....think of the sun!! warm colors suggest heat
cool colors are found to the right. cool colors suggest coldness
this lesson is designed to teach you that there are two kinds of colors on the color wheel. Warm Colors & cool colors
......you will create a scene that has a total of 8 items. 2 of the items must be colored in warm colors only. and 2 other items must be colored in cool colors only!
You must outline your two warm colored items in a warm color you must outline your two cool colored items in a cool color! you must place your setting on a neutral colored surface....examples .......floor, ground, and neutral color choices: brown, black, white and or gray. {notice how you will not find these "shades" on the color wheel!}
1. we will create a scene in the style of thiebaud using warm and cool colors! 2. the setting for the scene is up to you! 3. add some creative item in the background
**********per the rubric, you need 8 items to get 2 points: 2 items in warm colors, 2 items in cool colors on a neutral surface........gets you 5 items already!!
here are some finished examples using pastry......notice warm & cool color slices
Notice how the slices are outlined first in crayon, and then either colored or painted in?
The back two slices were done using cool colors. The front three using warm colors.
look at the samples below. Notice that many students chose to use slices of pie......and at least 2 each are in warm & cool colors
but the samples below are not finished!! even though the students chose to have more than 4 pieces......of pie on the top two examples .....two warm color items that are the same count as 1!!! just like in other projects. one warm pie, and one cool pie count as 2 items.
So, in the top right example, you have one cool color pie, one warm color pie, a boy, a dog, and a tabletop.......5 items so far
Thiebaud's passion was pastry...........what is your passion? Share it here ....as long as some items are in warm colors, and some in cool that is following directions
these 7th grade students chose to focus on what they were interested in! notice some items are in warm colors, some in cool The window counts as 1, the grass, 2, the camera 3, the paper under the camera 4, the pictures 5, the table top 6 and the camera lens 7. When I pointed out to this student she only had 7 items, and needed to add just one more to get 8, she used a sharpie to add a glass on the table top!
This student went to youtube an found a how to draw Michael jordan. He got 2 points for Jordan in warm and cool colors, the basketballs in warm and cool got him two more points.....up to 4
He added LeBron james to the right ........5, the fence got him his 6th point. the sign that says "jordan rules" was 7 and the nike logo.....got him to 8! since he aleady had a sign, the other one about "Lebron drools" would be another sign......but he did a great job..........and got 8 items.......which got him two points on the rubric
you have warm planets in warm colors, and saturn and the rocket ship in cool colors, along with another cool color planet bottom left
the artwork below had this student using the "how to draw" option learned in the first lesson
lets look at the rubric for the project. always check your work against the rubric to get the most amount of points you can get
remember.......per the goal: 2 items in warm colors & 2 items in cool colors on a neutral colored surface: brown, black, gray or white......table, floor, carpet, etc.
