Joseph mallard William turner was an artist who lived from 1775 until 1851.
he loved to draw and paint pictures about the sea. There seems to be a lot of "action" here.
Can you tell what kind of lines turner used to accomplish this?
what lines do you think that you could use to make a stormy scene like turner?
the following two pieces of artwork were done by other artists who loved to show action in their artwork
We will ...create a sea scene like turner and other artists did!! by now you should know that we must use diagonal, zig-zags and curved lines to show action!!!!!!!
our scene will look like this one to the right when we are finished
First we must put in diagonal lines to show rain falling. you should use a ruler or some other item to make straight lines
here is our scene just showing slanted {diagonal} lines.
This shows movement or action!
Now we will use water color paint for the water! use curve type strokes to make the water appear to be moving! Notice how the waves look at the top...like a curvy zig-zag !
make sure you paint all the way across to the right side!
After putting in the rain, and painting the raging sea...we will get this sheet to color in our boat!
You should use crayons to neatly color in your boat.
color parts of the boat solid, or feel free to just use colored lines. Here we see the use of curved lines in the sales!
we need to then use a scissors to cut out the boat. cut it out like this, just go around the sales
we want an active scene!
why would it be wrong to glue it down this way??
answer: to be even more active the boat should be glued down on a diagonal!
