effective communication - the use of "positive" & "negative space"
Look at the photo above. notice how the words "advertising is based on one thing: happiness" stands out
the words get your attention
rather than print red words on white paper,
the reverse happened here. the words were
sketched out .....and left white, while everything
else was colored in
We will generate a scene where we we will take negative space, and add positive space on top of it.
negative means {nothing is on there} when we add pictures or anything to negative space, those items are the opposite..........the positive space!
where is the negative space above?
Here is your rubric......note that you need 8 items for 2 points, and 5 to get 1 point!
here are some student examples for you. Look at the first one. The student artist started out with just a sheet of white paper. He then added the positive {areas in black} on top of the white { negative areas}
be careful when gluing down pieces
this student did a nice job of cutting things out, but then got glue in the negative space {black area}
He lost points in the craftsmanship area.
this student did a great job!!
First, she took a sheet of white paper {negative space. She then took a sheet of black which would go on top
{ so, black will be the positive space}
she used tracers to cut out pieces in black for the bottom, but then used tracers with a white pencil to be able to cut out the pieces at top
so, the white you see up there is the negative space
