"Perspective" means point of view. look what happens to our
point of view when we move to make all of the lines under the
ceiling lamps line up on one side? how is the view {perspective} different than the picture above?
in the scene above, we have stepped a little to the left, lining up
all of the lights on their left side. But notice how the "sides" of
lights on the right side don't line up like that. the ends seem to "move to the left" as they go down the hall!
Look up at the lights when you are going down a long hall. this is a sort of like an optical illusion. And, it is how we are going to learn how to use this technique along with others to show depth
show depth is a scene!
Notice how big the boat is? Also, it is important to use a different blue when creating a scene with water....than the blue of the sky!
Items in the distance lose details
parallel lines...look like they are coming together .......
vertical lines...are ...always ....vertical! even down the side of the street....leading to the vanishing point!
we see a lot of detail when looking near the bottom of this picture. Notice how the detail seems to "fade" as you look back towards the mountains?
SUMMARY
To use space properly in art to achieve "depth" we must do the following
1. Have large items near the bottom of the page
2. smaller items are in the middle of the page, and the smallest items are found at the back {top} of the paper
3. Parallel lines must be drawn as diagonals..as if they were meeting
4. A "horizon line" separates the sky from the ground
5. Details seem to fade in the distance

YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE PICTURE IS REALLY BROKEN UP INTO 3 PARTS
BACKGROUND...up near the top....items are smallest and farthest away
MIDGROUND.....in the middle....not as big as the foreground {bottom} but larger than the background}
FOREGROUND.............Always at the bottom, and always has the largest images
