We will create a night time scene under a full moon with silhouettes added
items in black are called .....silhouettes
a silhouette occurs when the light source is on one side, and we are on the other. Any objects that we are looking at will look black because.........there is no light reflecting off of them
I was driving west towards the sunset one day....notice how the back side of items look black? We know that they are not black...but without light hitting them....they look....black! we say those "black items" are in silhouette.
here are some student examples
First we need to think about what our scene will look like next, we will create a "sloppy copy" in pencil
day #1
Step 1....think of a setting that you want to generate
step 2....THINK ABOUT WHAT ITEMS WILL BE IN SILHOUETTE {will there be a tree, a bear, a person??}
step 3 ...on one sheet of paper" sketch out what you think your artwork will look like please use sloppy copy paper ...sloppy copy paper is computer printer paper
.....STEP 4.....YOU CAN PRINT OUT A CREATURE THAT YOU WANT ON THE GROUND SUCH AS A WOLF, PANTHER TO USE WITH THE LIGHT BOX...... but....
PLEASE CHECK THE "ANIMAL" OR "PEOPLE" BOX TO SEE IF THERE IS SOMETHING IN THERE YOU CAN USE
a note: from Ms. sparks and Mr. sallis!!!!!
school rule....chrome books must be closed and put away to protect them from getting paint on or in them!!
Day # 2 lets practice!
start in the center of your paper as you begin to paint
brush number 1 Start in the center & make a large circle in white for the moon Brush number 2. take a little blue on it and mix to make light blue for the 1st ring around the moon now...go back and add a little more blue for the next ring get more blue for the next ring
your "rings" around the moon should slowly be getting more blue as you add blue
day 3 adding your silhouette!
after the paint on our paper has dried {it takes a day to dry}
we can then start adding in the items in silhouette
the ground will be in black! the animals, people, trees, etc. must be done only in black
when your paper {sky background} is completely painted
